Oh the weather outside is frightful...

...and not for the reasons you may think. Many states joke about their seasons like North Dakota, "there's almost winter, winter, still winter, and construction," but here in Central Texas, we have a season called "allergy". It's the most horrible time of year where the cedar trees blow their pollen in obscene amounts through the air almost appearing to be smoke in the sky. Check out this photo from local news station KVUE.

Gross. That's the reason I become an invalid this time of year, and force any family member that's been outdoors to head straight for the shower upon walking back into the house. No passing go, no collecting $200, just get in the shower before the pollen falls off of you and lands on the sofa. I'm not even going to describe the symptoms that can bring a person to their knees when it gets this bad. Wait, yes I am. My cedar allergy is so miserable that it leaves sores on my nose. Not the type of sore that's on the end of your nose from blowing it too much during a cold, but actual red spots on the bridge of my nose where I can only assume the pollen is literally eating away at my skin. Again, gross.

This type of pollen phenomena forces me to get caught up on inside projects. I'm fairly organized and only have one small pile of papers to deal with, but it's the online projects that I was becoming further and further behind on. I took today to design some new products for my store - hello radiant orchid notecards!, delete a whole lotta old emails, and reorganize a couple thousand photos.

And now I sip my honey lemon tea with the hopes the bees carried some cedar pollen back to their hive with their bellies full of nectar, so I can gradually vaccinate myself with allergens. Some say eating local honey works to alleviate allergy symptoms, and some say it's bogus, but I'll give most anything a try to feel a bit better.

WOW I thought here in Alabama we had bad pollen! In the spring our cars turn yellow but we've got nothing on that. The honey should help you get accustomed to it in time. Good luck!

Oh! I'm so sorry to hear this is what you go through during this season. I didn't know that pollen got that bad in some areas.
I live in Houston, so right now it's actually been pretty cold. I'm actually surprised by this, we've even had a few ice days.
I hope your allergy doesn't get worse. Keep your nose safe.

Thank you - thank you - thank you! Yes, I'm doing much better these last few days. I can leave my house again without fear of errant pollen landing on me. ;-)
